Founded in 2018, NACCA first began as an idea that Black and oppressed communities must have access to resources and opportunities for advancement. On May 5, 2018, a group of community members came together to discuss how we could build a more diverse and connected Newmarket community. One pivotal point in the discussion was around a concern for youth and how the organization could support a generational legacy of education, empowerment, and unity that will foster pride in identity, culture and history for the people of African descent. We understood that there was a need for rootedness and belonging and a firm understanding of the past so that we could step boldly into the future. We concluded that our growth and sustainability meant building strength, partnerships and intercultural understanding. NACCA has built incredible programs and a community supporting Black families, youth and businesses In Newmarket. Since 2018, NACCA has provided 10 scholarships for Black students pursuing post secondary studies. We would love for our community to come together so we can support even more Black excellence for our youth and students through scholarships and programs. Given the challenges we have all experienced with the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with the increased trauma of anti-Black racism, we need to support our youth even more. With the help from our community we will be able to support even more students with future scholarships and develop a framework for increased wellness programs to deliver during the 2023-2024 school year and beyond. Please join us in celebrating Black excellence and building strong communities. You can donate to our scholarship fund and other programs here. Since NACCA is a registered charity, your donation may be tax deductible and a receipt will be given.
